What change were they facing?

Retail BC is an association that services small to mid-size regional retailers in British Columbia, Canada.  The association has 3000 members and Retail BC has a team of 15 employees servicing their members. Four senior managers, including the CEO, met once a week for two hours.  While the CEO played a minor role in facilitating the meeting, every team member fully participated by following each of the Steps as outlined and engaging in extensive discussions on how they could prosper from change. The change tools became extremely useful and after every step the team committed to following through with the few things that would get the greatest results.

How they used Prosper-From-Change™?

After considerable conversation in the first and second step, the team committed to naming their change ‘Focused Relevance’. The management team recognized the importance of have a specifically defined change they all would be committed to prospering from. ‘Focused Relevance’ meant making significant changes in product development, sales and marketing in order to grow and sustain their membership.

What were the results?

From the beginning, the senior management team were pleasantly surprised on the results they generated out of the “Prosper from Change Process” and how simple it seemed to work. There was a big shift in the way they viewed their business and as the team formed and a shared picture of the ideal outcome for their change, quicker decisions were made and with greater clarity. Each week the senior managers came back to the meeting announcing new changes they made within their roles and how it impacted their performance.  By the sixth step the momentum had increased throughout the whole organization. Senior managers were finding that the changes they personally made, impacted how the engaged their employees were within their departments. Members favorably commented on the value of changes being made and how they were more helpful to their business.  As the managers monitored new membership growth each week, they were delighted to see significant results increased in a short period of time. The Prosper from Change process also had a significant impact on their annual strategic planning that was presented to their Board of Directors. The management team commented that the had become so clear and aligned that the strategy development was amazingly simple yet more powerful than ever before. They were delighted.
